Estate Vineyard
PLACE OF PRODUCTION
Our wines are produced from 100% estate grown grapes from our Sanel Valley Vineyards in Hopland, the southernmost town in Mendocino County. The vineyard sits on the western benchlands of a small coastal valley, providing early morning sunlight. The nearby mountain range provides partial shade and cool breezes during the afternoon sun and heat.
SOIL
Mostly gravely, benchland loamy soils.
MESOCLIMATE
Dry, warm summers with mild rainy winter Southern Mendocino enjoys a similar climate to nearby Dry Creek Valley in Sonoma County.
ALTITUDE
500-600 feet above sea level.around our ponds and areas around.
ORGANIC FARMING PRACTICE
Our farming practice focuses on:
Building a healthy soil rich in beneficial microorganisms and organic matter, by using composts, organic amendment and cover crops which are planted between the vines.
Minimal intervention techniques, such as spraying Certified Organic products by CCOF, utilized to control vine disease.
Drip irrigation is used to carefully control our water usage in the vineyard. With water a scarce resource, it is only delivered to the vine as needed.
Weed management is through mechanical processes with occasional mowing when needed between the rows.
We support biodiversity by encouraging native flora and improving habitat along the edges of our vineyards, around our ponds and surrounding areas.
